IN LOVING MEMORY OF ALFRED A KENNETT DIED 1920 AGE 66

ALSO OF HIS WIFE SARAH

DIED 1951 AGE 85

REUNITED

Alfred enlisted in the army – The Buffs, 2nd Btn 3rd Foot - at Shorncliffe Camp, Folkestone, Kent on 26th Dec 1870 as Private Frederick Baker!  He stated he was aged 18.  As he was only 15/16 at the time I presume this is why he enlisted under a false name & age.  At enlistment he was 5' 6” tall, had hazel eyes, brown hair & a fresh complexion.

He declared his alias to the army on 29th Jan 1866 – presumably so he could marry Sally & record her as his next of kin.

He was promoted to Corporal on 29 March 1877 & to Sergeant on 18 May 1881.

He served in Mauritius 1876-1878, Natal 1878-1879, Straits Settlements (South East Asia) 1879-1882, China 1882-1885,

& at other times he was serving at home.  He was discharged 27 May 1890.
