A fellow researcher is a descendant of Joseph Shrubsole. We are having great difficulty in tracing where Joseph was born. However we do know at one stage he lived in Pound House in Stanford, Kent, as did some of my Shrubsole family. If anybody can enlighten us we would be most grateful.
By the next generation the surname has been changed to Shrubshall, reason unknown. It wasn’t just a mistransription as the Shrubshall surname follows the rest of the generations right down to the present day.
I have a theory that Joseph & my John Shrubsole b ca 1766 (again not known where born) are possibly brothers.
We are therefore following both trees with interest so thought it might be an idea to put the basic tree of Joseph on this site for others to look at to see if they connect & if they can help in any way.
Winifred Puxted, had a daughter Ann Puxted who was baptised 25th December 1810 at Stanford, Kent. We don’t know if Joseph was her father or not, but as Joseph & Winifred were married the following month in January 1811 it is very likely that he could have been.
We are having difficulty tracking Ann but know that she married in 1840 to Richard Arnold (after carefully elminating the other three possibilites). However we can’t find them in the 1841 or any other census. Anyone out there know anything that could help us please?
As you can see Joseph Shrubsole died in 1826 in Stanford. His widow Winifred remarried in 1836 to William Webb.
Joseph b 1819 enlisted in the Rifle Brigade with the name of Joseph SHRUBSOLE in 1837; he was discharged in 1859, again under the name of Joseph SHRUBSOLE, yet in 1855 he married as Joseph SHRUBSHALL and remained thus for all but his army discharge. There is no doubt about it being the same man. The SHRUBSHALL spelling of the surname then remained down through his descendants to the current time.
