Arthur Walter Shrubsole (sitting) with his brother Frederick William John Shrubsole (standing). This photo was taken in 1916 when Frederick was back in England on leave after injury, which was spent in Cheriton with his family (Frederick had previously emigrated to Australia so it was presumably a good opportunity to catch up with the family again).
Arthur had enlisted young - age 17 & Frederick tried to persuade him to ‘unlist’ but Arthur was having none of it. Lovely photo of them both.
Arthur enlisted 12 Oct 1915 as a driver in the Royal Horse & Royal Field Artillery and was discharged 18 Jun 1919.
He married Elizabeth Bevins in 1942 when he was 43 and she was 55. I understand Elizabeth was a widow & had a daughter but it seems to have been Arthur’s first marriage. I also cannot find Elizabeth’s first marriage & there seems to be some evidence she may have been born a Bevan & not married, or the records are missing.
If there are any descendants of Annie M, her daughter who married Leslie Ward in 1946 in Folkestone, I would dearly love to hear from them.
