Charles was born in Faversham and died in Sheppey. He married Louise Julia MARTIN (1849-1913) in 1867 at Gravesend, Kent and had 6 children, 3 sons Lewis Charles, Herbert M & Percy J, and 3 daughters Blanche Louise, Jessie Agnes & Adelaide May.
In the 1851 census Charles Baldock was a Grocer’s clerk but by 1861 census he was a Grocer & Wine Merchant employing 4 men and 3 boys.
He remained a grocer all his life & was originally in business with his brother William Hobbs Shrubsole but this partnership was dissolved in 1895. It looks like Charles carried on with the Grocer’s business whilst William Hobbs moved on to pastures new, as by 1901 William was living in Lewisham & described himself as a lecturer in Scientific Studies.
In the London Gazette of January 4th, 1895 there is a notice of the partnership being dissolved.
