Louis emigrated to Canada in June 1911 with his parents & siblings.
He signed on with the 58th Bn Canadian Infantry on 8th September 1915, two months before his 20th birthday & on 12th April 1917 at the tender age of 21 he was killed at Vimy Ridge. How sad to die so young after emigrating to a new life.
He is buried at THELUS MILITARY CEMETERY, Pas de Calais, France, memorial ref: IV.F.6
“REST ON MY DARLING BOY SO TRUE FOR EVER WITH THE LORD”
Louis was my 1C1R - the son of my grandfather’s sister Sarah. She & her husband emigrated to Canada in 1911 with 10 children; to emigrate as a couple is quite something; to do it with 10 children is very brave. Another of Sarah’s sisters emigrated later, whilst another of her sisters & husband tried it twice but eventually returned to England to live.
